Chronic Shoulder Pain Treatment, Diagnosis, Causes, Symptoms

Shoulder pain occurs inside or around your shoulder. It can emerge in joint itself as well, or from any of various surrounding muscles, ligaments or tendons. The severity of should pain varies on the intense activities and movement of your shoulder and arm.

Diagnosis

The first step in the diagnosis procedure is that your doctor asks you many questions related to your shoulder pain, in order to start the diagnosis procedure at right direction. Your doctor will notice redness, swelling and signs of dislocation, while examining your shoulder properly.

By moving your shoulder joints, your doctor will observe whether it causes pain or not, after the first diagnosis procedure your doctor may ask you to acquire some tests such as

  1. X-rays: Plain X-rays are able to manifest narrowing of the space among the tow shoulders joint bones, damage to the bones or signs of arthritis.
  2. MRI: Magnetic resonance imaging is knows as effective procedure, which helps in revealing the correct details of shoulder joint.
  3. Blood tests: you can be asked for a blood test by your doctor.

Causes

There are many reasons behind your acute should pain and below are causes of shoulder pain

  • Keeping unhealthy and poor posture
  • Frozen shoulder, very painful condition that stops simple movement in the joint and it can stop movement in the shoulder as well
  • Rotator cuff disorders, rotator cuff comprises of muscles and tendons, which are around the shoulder joint and help in keeping it normal
  • Shoulder instability, where your shoulder is unstable and can have unwanted large range of movement (hypermobility)
  • Acromioclavicular joint is situated at the top of shoulder and once it gets injured then it causes shoulder pain
  • Osteoarthritis in your shoulder joints is also one of the causes of shoulder pain
  • Broken fractured bone, like fracture of the humerus (upper arm bone) or broken collarbone also makes  a  way for pain to attack your shoulder

In few cases pain of shoulder is not because of a problem in your shoulder joint, but because of problem in another area like neck, which you feel in the shoulder or upper back.

Symptoms of Shoulder Pain

If your shoulder get injured and its bleeding or you see bone, tissue or tendons, then acquire an emergency treatment as soon as possible. You should visit your doctor, if you experience following conditions

  • Fever
  • Inability to move your shoulder with comfort
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness and heat around your joint
  • Pain that keeps incresing and doesn’t stop after home remedies

Shoulder Pain Treatments

There are some tips for you to cope with your shoulder pain, with using painkillers such as ibuprofen or icing your shoulder to eliminate the inflammation and remove the pain.  Avoid painful activities such as lifting heavy objects as it may aggravate your symptoms.

Following are the treatments which will be beneficial for your chronic shoulder pain

  • Physiotherapy
  • Corticosteroids Injections, this medication contains hormones
  • Surgery in few cases for eliminating shoulder pain accurately
